In July 2011, SELEX Sistemi Integrati was awarded the contract for the provision of a dual polarized Doppler weather radar to the Cayman Islands Airports Authority.
The new dual polarized radar will be located in in East End in Grand Cayman. The primary objective of this Project is to establish a digital early warning station in the Cayman Islands. The data from new radar will be transmitted to the Office of the Cayman Islands National Weather Service (CINWS) and a part of the data shall be combined with the data from the existing radars in the Caribbean, to regional composite images.
The high performance METEOR 1500S with a 8.5 meter antenna will be delivered with latest generation GDRX signal processor and RAINBOW data processing system.
The scope of works will also include; communication equipment, support facilities, training, installation, maintenance and logistics support for an initial period of three years.
